Salary Guide 2026 - Flipbook - Page 5
Overview of the market (continued)
While we recognise that some underwriting businesses categorise salary bands as uniform across all
lines of business, we increasingly see disparity in the compensation commanded by different classes.
This year, we have sought to address this by creating two separate salary bandings at the Senior
Underwriter level.
Office attendance expectations have also shifted, with a four day in office structure becoming
increasingly standard for underwriting teams. Most underwriters acknowledge that this level of
presence is necessary to remain effective in their roles, particularly from a broker development
perspective.

Looking ahead to 2026, the impact of recent market consolidation on recruitment remains uncertain.
However, this may be offset by the launch of new syndicates and the continued growth and popularity
of MGAs.
Guidance for Candidates

If you are considering a transition into a new line of business or market segment, now is an opportune

time. Talent shortages are prompting hiring managers to think more creatively, providing broader

opportunities than would typically be available. It remains unclear how long this window will stay open.
Guidance for Hiring Managers
Assume candidates are actively engaged in multiple hiring processes. Clearly articulating and selling
the opportunity, often through an initial informal meeting, can materially strengthen engagement. For
long term retention, consider talent from affiliated lines of business, or even from outside the industry,
as this can foster greater loyalty, particularly where candidates value access to a field previously
inaccessible to them.
Overall, the market is entering a period defined by talent scarcity, heightened mobility, and elevated
compensation pressure, necessitating proactive workforce planning throughout 2026.
